Marlene Lester, 87, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and formerly of Perry passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Marlene Joyce Yard was born to Ransom and Irene (Peters) Yard Aug. 9, 1932, in Perry, Iowa.
After graduating from Dawson High School, she married Charles Keith Lester Dec. 6, 1951, at the First Christian Church in Perry.
Marlene was employed by Iowa Avco Finance and the Dallas County Hospital.
After retirement, she and Keith became managers of the Perry Golf and Country Club for several years.
Marlene’s hobbies were playing golf and bridge, which she continued throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Doris Nelson, Phyllis Alex, Richard Yard and Patricia Roberts.
Her husband, Keith, passed away in 2005, and their beloved son, Peter, in 2016.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Trish and Randy Appenzeller, of Tarpon Springs; grandchildren, Cody and Annie of Tarpon Springs; daughter-in-law, Holly Lester of Ames; and grandson, Joey Lester of Cedar Falls.
Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church Friday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. After the service, a gathering for family and friends will be held at the Tin Pig Tavern at 1203 Second St.
