The Perry girls posted a 7-0 win at Carlisle Thursday and freshman Natalie Martinez (front row, fifth from right) was a big reason why, as she scored a school-record six times in the victory.

CARLISLE — Freshman Natalie Martinez, come what may, is unlikely to forget the second game of her varsity career.

Having scored Perry’s lone goal in a 4-1 season-opening loss at Winterset Tuesday, the speedy frosh went five steps further Thursday, scoring a new school record six times as in a 7-0 shutout of Carlisle.

The scoring explosion began with seven minutes into the game when Martinez converted off a pass from Mariah Duffy. She found the nylon again in the 34th minute off a Vivian Gonzalez assist to give Perry (1-1, 1-1) a 2-0 halftime lead.

The onslaught continued with unassisted scores in the second and eighth minutes of the second half.

The Wildcat defense clearly had no answer for Martinez, and it took a teammate — sophomore Sydney Guerra — to stop her run, as Guerra scored on a penalty kick in the 15th minute to move the score to 5-0.

Haley Vaughn assisted on a Martinez goal in the 20th minute, with an unassisted goal with just over four minutes remaining capping the scoring and ending the extraordinarily rare individual outburst.

Victoria Hegstrom was in goal for Perry in the first half, with Amparo Menendez between the pipes after the intermission.

Perry hosts Des Moines Hoover tonight for a freshman/junior varsity/varsity triple-set beginning at 4:45 p.m.
