EVANS, GA — Perry graduate Natalie Martinez has spent two seasons playing soccer for Tyler Junior College in Texas. It would be hard to argue where her time might have been better spent.

The Apaches were 2-0 winners over the Salt Lake Bruins June 8 at Blanchard Park in suburban Augusta, allowing Tyler to claim their second consecutive NJCAA Division I women’s soccer national championship. The season was not held in 2020 due to COVID.

Tyler was the 2019 national titleist as well, and also claimed national crowns in 2009, 2011, and 2017 as well.

Tyler (18-0) topped Spartanburg Methodist, 7-1, in the opening round, then blanked Indian Hills of Ottumwa, IA, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before besting Snow College of Ephraim, UT, 4-0, in the semifinals June 7, setting up the title match.

The Apaches outscored their opponents, 80-6, during the 2021 season.

Tyler JC (Texas) defeated Salt Lake CC, 2-0, for the NJCAA Div 1 national title Tuesday. Perry’s Natalie Martinez (not pictured) is a key component of the Apache squad. Photo submitted.
