Martinez sets new all-time scoring record for Jayettes

CARROLL — Perry senior Natalie Martinez found the back of the Carroll net with 20 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in Thursday’s Raccoon River Conference girls soccer match, breaking Taylor Hoffman’s 2013 school record of 86 career goals with the strike.

The goal was the second of the game for Martinez and was part of a scoring onslaught that helped Perry record a 7-0 win. The Jayettes moved to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in RRC play while the Tigers fell to 2-10 and 0-6. Carroll has been outscored 8-84 this season while Perry, despite a 5-7 mark, owns a 43-20 overall scoring advantage.

Hannah Peterson’s fourth goal of the season — on Martinez’s third assist — opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Jaqueline Guardado added an unassisted strike less than three minutes later for give the guests a 2-0 halftime lead.

The eighth goal of the season for sophomore Kailey Crawford made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute, with Jazmin Hernandez’s fourth assist of the campaign setting up the goal.

Martinez scored in the 46th minute, with Molly Lutmer scoring her third goal of the year in the 52nd minute. Crawford assisted the score, then made the set-up pass, seven minutes later, for the record-breaking goal by Martinez. The assists were the first two of the season for Crawford.

The final goal of the game came in the 74th minute when Guardado scored another unassisted goal, her fifth time to ruffle to net this spring.

Kimberly Castillo and Odlay Perla split time between the pipes for Perry, with each goalie making a single save.

The Perry junior varsity did not fare as well, falling by a 3-0 final.
