It’s that time of year again. The Medicare Open Enrollment period will last from Tuesday, Oct. 15 to Thursday, Dec. 7.
This is a time when Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to join, drop or switch their Medicare Advantage Plan (part C) or Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (part D). Any changes made during this time will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
Even if you haven’t planned on making a change, it’s a good idea for all Medicare beneficiaries to review their plans annually to ensure their coverage continues to best fit their needs.
Navigating Medicare enrollment can be confusing, but help is available. Iowa offers the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), which provides free, confidential counseling about Medicare to beneficiaries, families and caregivers. The program’s volunteers offer one-on-one sessions to help you make an informed decision about benefits.
SHIIP volunteers can also help with your initial Medicare enrollment in the three months before and after your 65th birthday.
In Dallas County there are two locations where you can meet with a SHIIP counselor. To meet at the Dallas County Health Department in Adel, call 515-993-3750 to make an appointment. To meet with a counselor at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, call 515-465-7578.
