Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry will be the site for the 2019 Memorial Day Program Monday, May 27, presented by the American Legion Post 85 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2060 in Perry.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. and feature the post of colors, an invocation and reading, a roll call for the honored dead and a ceremonial gun salute and playing of Taps.  In the event of rain, tents and chairs will be provided.

Other Memorial Day events Monday will be a 9 a.m. service at Fairview United Methodist Church. The church is located at 2162 Deer Ave north of Perry. Signs will direct the unfamiliar to the site. The service will feature a flag presentation by Perry Scout Troop 127 and the Rippey American Legion as Honor Guard, readings by Tom Mertz, April Gunderson and James Hunt, a short message from the Rev. Cat Stokes and solos by Steve Gunderson and Brett Halling, with Angel Escobar playing Taps. Refreshments will follow the service.

A Memorial Day Mass by St. Patrick Catholic Church will start at 9 a.m. at Violet Hill Cemetery, weather permitting. Parishioners should bring their own chairs. In the event of rain, Mass will be said in the church.

Also on Monday will be a series of cemetery visits hosted by American Legion Post 99 of Minburn. First up will be a stop at Brown Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., with visits to Kimrey Cemetery at 10 a.m., Elmwood Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. and Raccoon River Cemetery at 11 a.m. to follow.
