Hundreds of PCSD songsters took the stage at the Perry Performing Arts Center in 2016 for the Jukebox Variety Show entitled Retro Rewind: '60s and '70s.

The 85 members of the PHS Concert Choir and Chorale were joined by Perry Middle School singers and participants in the Kids Camp for a spirited selection of classic pop songs from the 1960s and ’70s in the 2016 Jukebox Variety Show.

This year’s theme was Retro Rewind: ’60s and ’70s, featuring several student soloists performing such memorable songs as “Crazy,” “Gentle On My Mind,” “The Rose,” “One Way or Another,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” and others. Student soloists were selected by audition before winter break.

BJ-THOMAS-BANNER-NPAC2The sixth-to-12th grade boys joined forces for the B. J. Thomas 1968 hit, “Hooked on a Feeling,” and the sixth-to-12th grade girls performed Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 torch song, “I Will Survive.”

The full PHS Choir will perform the John Lennon classic, “Imagine,” and the young women of the PHS Choir and Chorale showed their AF-Nice2010soulful side, singing an Aretha Franklin medley, including “Think,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Natural Woman,” and “Respect.”

New to this year’s Jukebox Variety Show was the choir’s Kids Camp for students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. The young singers rehearsed a mash-up of two Jackson 5 hits — “I Want You Back” and “ABC” — on Saturday morning and then performed in the evening with the full PHS Choir.
