A Milwaukee man was arrested on drugs and weapons charges Friday afternoon after he was stopped for speeding on U.S. Interstate 80.

Melvin Montrell Wade, 32, of 1920 N. 35th St., Milwaukee, was charged with controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation and unauthorized possession of offensive weapons.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Friday on eastbound U.S. Interstate 80 near the 110 mile marker, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 2015 Mercedes Benz ML, operated by Wade.

The trooper made contact with Wade, who allegedly presented with “the odor of raw marijuana coming from his person,” according to court records.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle disclosed some “206 grams of raw marijuana,” according to court records.

Two handguns were found in the glove box, including a Glock 22 that was “modified with a fully automatic ‘switch'” that “allows it to fire multiple rounds with a single pull of the trigger,” according to court records. A  pistol so modified “is considered a machine gun under federal law and state law.”

The Glock “had a round loaded in the chamber and also had a loaded, extended magazine in the glove box next to it,” according to court records.

Wade is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 22 in Dallas County District Court.
