MINBURN, Iowa — The Minburn Volunteer Fire Department responded to a field fire about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in timber on 180th Street north of Minburn.

The firefighting crew attacked the fire as it smoldered in a stand of trees and in the adjoning farmland, where stubble easily kindled. The ground is owned by Paul E. Burkett, according to Dallas County records, and lies south of the Small Potatoes Farm at 24629 180th St.

“We’ve seen a lot of field fires all this week,” said one of the firefighters. “The conditions have been perfect for it. We’re lucky with this one because the wind’s from the south so it will burn itself out when it reaches the corn.”

There were no injuries in the incident. The cause of the field fire is unknown at this hour.
