Several July events are planned at the New Opportunities Dallas County Family Development Center, according to Karen Ventura, coordinator of New Opportunities.
A mobile food pantry is scheduled for July 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at Crossroads Church, 2810 First Ave. in Perry. Volunteers are still needed to help host this event, Ventura said, which offers free food to all Dallas County residents.
The Opportunities Garden is also growing, one of the new benefits for users of the Perry Area Food Pantry. Ventura said help is still needed tending the garden’s six beds, and donations for materials are always welcome.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is partnering with New Opportunities on a six-part series of weekly nutrition classes beginning Thursday, July 2. Classes will be conducted in Spanish and held at the Town Craft Center, 1124 Willis Ave. There is an incentive for families who participate, Ventura said.
Classes will meet on Thursdays with two choices for meeting times: 1-2:30 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m. Scheduled meeting dates are July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6.
