ADM 14, PERRY 13
at Dewey Field, Aug. 28

Perry defensive end Solomon Pierce (83) elevates and knocks away a pass attempt by ADM quarterback Frank Weiland.

Tight end Marcus Meri found open space over the middle, and quarterback Ryan Rathje connected with his fellow senior for a 25-yard gain.

Perry’s first touchdown of the game, which came late in the third quarter, was set up on this bruising run by senior tailback Eli Saemisch. The entire front line had strong blocks on the play, with center Gil Garcia (79) and right guard Kevin Lopez (75) shielding the backside and tight end Marcus Meri (84) Saemisch’s left while left guard Tyler Soll (67) and left tackle Joe Olvera (72) plowed open a path.

Good pass protection allowed Rathje the time to find Taviar Lucas on an inside slant from the ADM 12. Lucas pulled in the pass, broke a tackle and dashed into the end zone for a Bluejay touchdown.

The Bluejays scored second later to close to within 14-13 on an outstanding defensive play by several players. Weiland is stood up at the line of scrimmage by Adan Medina (35) and Mark Campos (28), among others, with Medina ripping the ball free and sprinting 35 yards to paydirt as the Perry faithful roared their approval.

Junior linebacker Nic Fellom comes on a blitz and is able to run down Weiland for a sack and a loss of three yards. Fellom finished the contest with six tackles.

ADM had possession late in the game and in Perry territory and could possibly have run down most of the remaining game time, but the Tigers opted to go to the air and Ivan Garcia made them pay. The senior cornerback stepped in front of a Weiland pass and returned the interception 32 yards, with a 15-yard penalty against ADM tacked on to the end of the play.

ThePerryNews would like to thank Perry assistant coach Matt Hardy and Bluejay senior Gage Welch for their help in making this presentation possible.
