GRANGER — The never-say-die Woodward-Granger baseball team rallied for another last at-bat victory Wednesday to snatch a 3-2 WCAC win from visiting Madrid.

Madrid (2-2) had plated single runs in the first and fourth innings to grab a 2-0 lead, with W-G (7-2-1) cutting their deficit to 2-1 with a run in the sixth.

A Bryce Achenbach sacrifice and a pair of walks on eight pitches produced the tying and winning run in the seventh, with Brandon Worley’s free pass pushing home the fatal run.

Achenbach and Reese Jamison hit 1-2 in a revamped lineup and the move paid off, with the former providing two hits and the later one and a key run. Colby Tague had two hits, Worley a single, RBI-double and RBI-walk and Worth Henry a single and a run. Tate Lettow had a base hit and Trevor Simmons a RBI, with Jack Grell also crossing the plate.

Jay Dorenkamp yielded two runs on just three hits in a complete game win for the hosts. He fanned five batters and walked one.

Luke Owensby tossed six innings for the Tigers, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He walked four and struck out four. Braden Gibbons allowed a hit and two walks in relief.

Matt Eagleton had a RBI-double for Madrid, with Gibbons and Cayden Fuson each scoring once.

W-G is at ADM tonight and will host South Tama Friday.
