Betty Liebsack of rural Minburn holds a kitten rescued from the tool shed fire at her home this morning. Three other kittens and several chickens are still unaccounted for.

A tool shed caught fire about 7:30 a.m. today at 21445 187th Rd. in rural Minburn, the home of Jim and Betty Liebsack.

Firefighting crews from Minburn and Dallas Center extinguished the blaze but not before the contents of the shed and a pickup truck parked next to it were destroyed.

“I was in the kitchen when I noticed the lights flicker,” said Betty Liebsack. “When I looked out back, there was a lot of black smoking blowing across the yard.”

Liebsack said she and her husband have lived in the house since 1990. She said several chickens and a litter of four kittens were in the shed at the time of the fire.

One of the kittens was rescued, but the fate of the rest of the animals is unclear at this hour.
