CORALVILLE — Wartburg sophomore Zane Mulder placed second at the National Wrestling Coaches Association DIII tournament Saturday.

The former DC-G standout is the son of Zack Mulder, who was a state place-winner for Perry in 1997. He is the grandson of Vicki Van Pelt of rural Granger.

Mulder began his day with an 8-1 decision over Philip Rogers of the Coast Guard Academy, sending him to the championship round at 6 p.m.

There the third-seed faced top-rated Braden Birt of Millikin University (Decatur, Il). The Big Blue grappler won with a 15-0 technical fall, ending the match at the 5 minute, 24 second mark.

Mulder’s efforts earned the underclassman All-American status.
