Two victims were lifeflighted and a third was transported by ground after they were involved in a two-vehicle head-on collision on U.S. Highway 30 in Grand Junction Tuesday night shortly before 8 p.m.
According to a spokesperson for the Greene County Sheriff’s office, Rodney Blackmon, 22, of Grand Junction was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 30 in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala when a westbound vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Jonathan Kersey, 18, of Grand Junction, turned southward in front on the Blackmon vehicle, striking it head on.
All the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Blackmon was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Des Moines. A passenger in Blackmon’s vehicle, Stephen Molle, 21, of Jamaica, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Iowa City. Kersey was transported by ground to the Greene County Hospital.
The Greene County Sheriff’s office said Kersey was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way, and drug paraphernalia and “suspected marijuana wax” were found in Blackmon’s vehicle.
Further charges are pending in the incident.
The Iowa State Patrol, Greene County Sheriff’s office, Grand Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Greene County EMS responded.
