A three-vehicle, head-on collision on Iowa Highway 141 near Diagonal Road in Perry sent at least two persons to the hospital Friday evening.
The incident involved a passenger car, a passenger minivan and a light-duty pickup truck.
The driver of the minivan said he was traveling eastbound behind the pickup on Iowa Highway 141 when the westbound car crossed the center line, first striking the pickup and sending it spinning into the south ditch and then striking the minivan.
The car appeared to sustain significant damage to the driver’s-side front quarter, and the minivan was crumpled along its driver’s side. The extent of damage to the pickup could not be discerned at the scene.
The circumstances of the collison are under investigation by law enforcement at this hour.
The initial report, received about 5:15 p.m., claimed a driver of one of the vehicles was trapped and was not breathing, but this report proved false.
One person was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center by the Dallas County EMS. At least one other person was transported by private vehicle for medical attention.
Traffic in both directions of Iowa Highway 141 was diverted while emergency personnel responded to the accident.
The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS responded to the incident.
