Myrtle ‘Kaye’ Beard of Perry

Myrtle “Kaye” Beard, 89, of Perry went home to be with her Lord Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at the Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 15 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Perry Lutheran Home Chapel on the second floor. A private family burial will be at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens in Ankeny.

Memorials will be given to EveryStep Hospice and Perry Lutheran Home Activities and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Myrtle “Kaye” Kathryn Beard was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Lexington, Ky., to Frank and Irene (Owens) Queen.

She attended the Nazareth School of Nursing and Iowa State University, earning a degree in psychology.

Kaye was united in marriage to Paul D. Beard and later divorced.

She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kentucky, was director of nursing at the University of Kentucky and worked at Mercy Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Kaye was an artist and loved painting with watercolors, oils and pastels. She had a passion for gardening and raising Chihuahuas and Teacup Poodles.

While at the Perry Lutheran Homes, she enjoyed reading and going through all the magazines and visiting all her friends.

In death she rejoins her parents, Frank and Irene; sister, Gladys; and a daughter, Paula.

Left to cherish Kaye’s memory are her children, Donna Jean and husband, Dave, Michelle, David and Loretta; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brother, Charles, and family; many nieces and nephews; and her Perry Lutheran Homes family.
