A Nevada man allegedly carrying drugs attempted to elude law enforcement on U.S. Interstate 80 early Monday, endangering his children, who were passengers.

Rupert Lee Boehling, 35, of 1990 Oddie Blvd., Sparks, Nevada, was charged with eluding, two counts of child endangerment, first-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a citation for failure to stop in assured clear distance.

The incident began about 1:45 a.m. Monday near the 117 mile marker of eastbound U.S. Interstate 80, where an officer of the Waukee Police Department observed a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Boehling, doing 84 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The officer tripped his emergency lights and siren while following the vehicle, but the vehicle continued eastbound and increased its speed, “attempting to flee,” according to court records.

Boehling “led officers on a pursuit that went through multiple cities, violating multiple traffic laws,” according to court records.

Boehling finally stopped in front of the Urbandale Public Library, and the officers took him into custody. He allegedly admitted, “without provocation,” that he possessed “Oxys” on his person, according to court records.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle disclosed “multiple items of drug paraphernalia,” including “a burnt ‘Oxy’ pill on a piece of burnt aluminum foil,” according to court records.

Boehling’s children were with him in the vehicle, according to court records.

Boehling is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 18 in Dallas County District Court.
