The Ray B. Smith Museum Store building will soon house Michael's Cyclery.

The dust hardly settled in the Ray. B. Smith Museum Store building at 1118 Willis Ave. after the Feb. 29 closure of the Raccoon River Valley Bicycle Co. before another bike seller was setting up shop in the soon-to-open Michael’s Cyclery.

The hours for the new retail outlet are yet “to be determined,” according to the store’s website, but stock was seen being moved into the store Thursday.

It is an ideal location for the retail bicycle trade in a town soon to boast a double trailhead, making Perry unique in Iowa as the starting point of the state’s two most popular recreational trails, the High Trestle Trail and the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

The 3,500-square-foot Willis Avenue property was acquired by 618 Properties LLC in March 2018 from Pattee Hotel LLC, which owned the building since 2013.
