The New Hope Village Bargain Shoppe will soon vacate its store at 1010 26th St. in the East Perry Plaza for new and larger quarters in the Iowa Highway 144 corridor when it moves to the former site of Don’s TV at 912 Center St. in Perry.
“I don’t have the dates firmed up yet,” said Lisa Willis, manager of the New Hope stores in Perry and Jefferson, “but I know they’re going to start doing some retrofitting next week. Likely it will be December.”
Willis said the new space will give new hope to New Hope.
“The layout is different, which is instrumental,” she said, “plus the back room is to die for, which is half your key to anything you do. The old location has always been a bit of a struggle to work that backroom.”
One might think a change of location would mean moving a lot of stuff, but “it doesn’t kind of work that way,” Willis said. “We’ll liquidate one location, stop taking donations at that location and just have a certain time for dropoffs before December into the new location, and then we’ll prep that building. Likely we won’t move a lot of merchandise from one building to the other.”
So a big liquidation sale is planned at the old store, she said, and the new store will probably start taking donations Nov. 1 for four hours a day. Willis is also determined to prevent the new location from becoming “a dump zone.”
“We’re going to try to retrain the public on donating only during our store hours,” she said, “and we’ll see what happens. I probably will buckle down on the dumping once we’re in the new place because it’s going to be such a nice location. I don’t allow it in Jefferson because we’re on the square and likely won’t allow it in the new place because it’s going to be so darn nice.”
Even if the stock will be liquidated, there is still a lot of work that goes into relocating a store.
“I got busier,” Willis said. “That’s for sure.”
