New Yorker arrested on U.S. Interstate 80 returning from Denver

Evan Michael Tome, 24, of Pittsford, N.Y., was arrested Wednesday on charges of controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp.

A New Yorker was arrested Wednesday evening on the West Des Moines stretch of U.S. Interstate 80 on drug charges.

Evan Michael Tome, 24, of 66 Fishers Road, Pittsford, N.Y., was charged with controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp.

The incident began about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound U.S. Interstate 80 in West Des Moines, where an officer with the West Des Moines Police Department “stopped for a traffic violation” a 2019 Tesla Model 3 with New York plates.

The officer made contact with the driver, Tome, who “said that he was traveling from Denver, Colorado, and driving back home to New York” and also “admitted to possessing marijuana and recently purchasing marijuana in Colorado,” according to court records.

A probable-cause search of Tome’s vehicle disclosed “84 grams of marijuana and multiple THC containers,” according to court records. “During the search, one of the containers containing 7 grams of marijuana blew away due to the wind.”

Tome is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for arraignment May 28 in Dallas County District Court.
