NFL predictions: Week 5

A brief overview of the six state title games on tap at the UNI-Dome.

Week 4 of the NFL picks went 11-4 in my favor, and that is a rate I can certainly live with. As also predicted, the games ended up being dreary, yawn-inducing affairs; fortunately the pickings are much richer this week.

Not realizing I had forgotten to post these picks Thursday afternoon, they appear now (last Saturday) as I nervously await seeing whether breaking with tradition will upset the recent run of success.

Off we go …

Thursday’s Game
COLTS at TEXANS, 7:25 p.m., CBS/NFLN
The word is Luck is out, leaving Indy to rely on Matt Hasselback. Not a fair trade, but likely good enough against hapless Houston … COLTS 23-13.

Sunday’s Games
REDSKINS at FALCONS, 12 p.m., FOX
Julio Jones is tearing up secondaries all across the league; Washington’s is next … ATLANTA 34-16.

BROWNS at RAVENS, 12 p.m., CBS
The Crows now they had better make noise to keep pace with Cincy and need score wins while Pittsburgh is forced to play Vick … RAVENS 22-8.

SEAHAWKS at BENGALS, 12 p.m., FOX
A different team away from home, if for nothing else than they do not get every call, so look for the Seabags to crash on the north shore of the Ohio … CINCINNATI 26-17.

RAMS at PACKERS, 12 p.m., CBS
Remember that you heard it here first: Aaron Rodgers’ streak of not throwing an interception at Lambeau Field over 19 consecutive games will end against the Rams, but Green Bay will sneak off with the win … PACKERS 27-24.

BEARS at CHIEFS, 12 p.m., FOX
I might be inclined to take my Bears were this game on Lake Shore Drive, but in KC? Just cannot do it … CHIEFS 23-13.

SAINTS at EAGLES, 12 p.m., FOX
Although I have little faith in them, I am sticking with the … EAGLES 26-17.

JAGUARS at BUCCANEERS, 12 p.m., CBS
The quicker we move on, the better … BUCS 10-6.

BILLS at TITANS, 12 p.m., CBS
Buffalo was embarrassed last week by the G-Men and should be plenty motivated to get back in the win column … BILLS 24-13.

CARDINALS at LIONS, 3:05 p.m., FOX
I am sticking up Arizona as my dark horse to win the NFC … CARDINALS 27-20.

PATRIOTS at COWBOYS, 3:25 p.m., CBS
It can sometimes be hard to avoid watching Dallas and/or Boston if you do not have a satellite package. Fortunately they play each other this week, so a nice nap and then a little something on cable should suffice … BOSTON 14-7.

BRONCOS at RAIDERS, 3:25 p.m., CBS
Either Denver’s defense allows the Broncos to post a blowout win, or the Raiders win a squeaker. Hate to do it, but … DENVER 38-13.

FORTY-NINERS at GIANTS, 7:30 p.m., NBC
Are you kidding me? The new season of The Walking Dead starts at 8! … GIANTS 16-15.

Monday’s Game
STEELERS at CHARGERS, 7:30 p.m., ESPN
Who cares? The Cubs might be on … SAN DIEGO 20-10.

Byes: Carolina, Miami, Minnesota, NY Jets

Last week: 11-4; Season: 36-27 (.571).
