BOONE — A listless Perry team came up short in their upset bid of 15th-ranked Boone Thursday, dropping a 4-1 decision to give the Toreadors a season-sweep. Boone was a 4-2 victor in Perry June 2.
“We just lacked a spark tonight,” Perry head coach Tina Kenney said.
The team might have been caught looking ahead to Saturday. The team leaves Friday for a trip to Decorah, where they will play three games Saturday before returning to Perry Sunday. A total of eight teams play in the bracketed tourney, the schedule for which can be found here: Decorah Softball Invite.
If Perry were without spark the evidence did not appear in the first inning as a Sid Vancil single and steal set up a Rachel Kinney RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
Boone moved into a 2-1 lead with two tallies in the third, then scored twice more in the fifth to set the score.
Emma Olejniczak yielded four runs — one of them unearned — on seven hits and a walk. She finished with five strikeouts, and her fourth-inning double was the only Jayette hit after Vancil and Kinney in the first.
