CARLISLE — One of the oldest sports cliches is that, sometimes, someone or some team simply “has your number.”

Such has been the case for Perry against Carlisle in both of their Raccoon River Conference baseball meetings this year.

On June 8 the Wildcats needed just four innings at Progressive Field to rout the Bluejays, 16-0. The guests had 10 hits in the game and freshman pitcher Nic McCay allowed just one hit to the hosts.

On Monday Carlisle junior Tryston Durham no-hit Perry, striking out 12 and issuing only one walk as the hosts used three solo home runs to fuel a 4-0 victory.

Jordan Pierce and Max McCay hit solo homers in the first inning, with Alec Iverson swatting a solo dinger in the sixth. The other Carlisle run came in the second when Peyton Stephens drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Jensen Mikesell.

Will Whiton’s walk was the only blemish on Durham’s sheet as Carlisle improved to 15-8, 8-2 while Perry fell to 13-9, 5-4.

Whiton allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven in six innings on the bump.

Perry hosts Bondurant-Farrar tonight and Ballard for a varsity doubleheader Thursday.
