The members of Nu Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society continued their explorations of the art of relating their life stories this month.
Last month former Nu Alpha Gamma member Jane Traver of Truman, Minnesota, longtime school librarian at the Perry Elementary School and Middle School, spoke about telling stories.
Traver listed many possible places one can mine for story ideas, including childhood memories, family, travel and work experiences. She also entertained the group with several of her own captivating stories.
In November the members were joined by Ray Harden of Perry, who taught science for many years at the Perry Junior High School. He is in the process of writing his memoirs and shared the origins of his stories as well as some tips for making those stories more interesting.
Harden suggested adding lots of colorful adjectives and active verbs as well as incorporating your own feelings in order to make your autobiographical stories come alive.
The members posed a number of questions about his book and the process of publishing it as well.
It is hoped that there will be stories to share at our December meeting as members use the tips they have been given.
