A handful of volunteers from the Nudgers rehab and restoration group was all it took to bring a sparkle Wednesday to the Perry storefront at 1116 Second St.

Nudgers Sandy Grubbs, Pat Snyder and Cheri Scheib applied red, black and gray paint to good effect to the front of the former bakery owned by Humberto Hernandez, which went out of business last year. They also gave the plate glass a cleaning.

Reactions were positive.

“Thank you for your hard work,” said Theresa Jarnagin Krueger on Facebook. “It looks so much better. That red door really pops.”

Scheib explained the genesis of the storefront face lift.

“It is for sale, but it needed paint and a little cleaning up,” she said. “We girls pictured a dark gray and thought that red doors would complement all of the surrounding black paint. It makes the adjoining stores really stand out now.”

Scheib said volunteers are welcome to join the Nudgers and others for the downtown community cleanup scheduled for Friday, July 5.
