DES MOINES — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect for Dallas and surrounding counties from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday.

High temperatures in the lower 90s, combined with dew points in the middle to upper 70s, will lead to heat index values of 102-106 degrees during the afternoon Tuesday.

Heat-related illnesses may occur, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially if proper precautions are not taken.

Citizens are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and, if possible, remain in an air-conditioned room. Checking up on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly, is advised.
