NWS issues severe thunderstorm watch until 3 a.m. Friday

The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 3 a.m. Friday for Dallas County and 39 other counties in central Iowa.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are developing this afternoon and will continue into tonight. The main threats will be damaging thunderstorm wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Along with Dallas County, the severe thunderstorm watch area includes Adair, Audubon, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Clinton, Crawford, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Harrison, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Linn, Louisa, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monona, Muscatine, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Scott, Shelby, Story, Tama, Warren and Washington counties.
