The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a red flag warning from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday for the Perry area and much of western Iowa.

Strong northerly winds are forecast Wednesday afternoon, with gusts to 45 mph. Afternoon RH values will drop into the range of 25% to 30%, and these conditions, combined with mostly cured grasslands and crops, will result in a high risk of rapid fire spread.

The most extreme conditions will be along and west of a line from Algona, to Fort Dodge and Atlantic, where the grasslands are mostly cured.

ThePerryNews.com will update this weather story as forecasts evolve.
