As the snow flies on Christmas Eve about 3:15 a.m., firefighters with the Perry Volunteer Fire Department enter a house where the odor of burning plastic was detected.

As snow fell on a silent Christmas eve, the Police Department and Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded about 3 a.m. Sunday to a homeowner’s report of waking up to an odor of burning plastic.

A crew of firefighters entered the home of Jessica L. Edmundson of 2324 Otley Ave. and traced the source of the odor to a faulty furnace fan. A thermal imaging camera was deployed in the investigation.

“It was the blower motor on the furnace malfunctioning,” said Perry Volunteer Fire Department First Assistant Chief Brian Eiteman.

There were no injuries in the incident, and the volunteer firefighters were back in their quarters by 4 a.m. and hoping for a safe and uneventful holiday.

A five-person crew of Perry firefighters responded to a reported odor of burning plastic at 2324 Otley Ave. about 3 a.m. Sunday.
