A steady stream of wellwishers passed through the Perry Police Department training room Thursday afternoon in honor of retiring Perry Police Officer Pat Jans.

Many of Jans’ fellow employees of the city of Perry, including a host of police department workers, were on hand to wish him well and share 22 years’ worth of memories, some of which were inspired by the photographs of former days that decorated the party room.

Adding to the festivities was the presence of Jans’ son, Caleb Jans, who is a recently recruited officer on the Jefferson Police Department. Joining the younger Jans on the journey from Greene County were Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse and Jefferson Police Captain Heath Enns.

Asked about his favorite duty while on the force and his plans going forward, Pat Jans without hesitation said he loved teaching DARE classes as the department’s School Resource Officer. He said he hopes to combine this longstanding pleasure in working with young people into some further means of serving the public in retirement.

Perry Police Officer Pat Jans was thanked for his 22 years of service to the city of Perry Thursday at a retirement party thrown in his honor.
