The Iowa Football Coaches Association on Friday released their list of Academic All-State players in each class, with Perry’s Kaleb Olejniczak selected in Class 3A.
Players must be a senior starter and nominated by their coach. They are required to be involved in other extra-curricular activities beyond football and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
Olejniczak was a bright spot on an 0-9 Perry team and made enough on an impression to earn a Third Team All-State spot from the Iowa Sportswriters.
His 101 total tackles tied for tops in 3A and he had one interception while breaking up numerous passes and, most often, simply not being tested in the passing game.
He was 55-of-152 passing for 649 yards and nine touchdowns while being intercepted seven times. Olejniczak rushed 162 times for 478 yards and seven TDs, but, with sack yardage deducted from rushing totals, likely gained several hundred yards.
The Bluejays are coached by Matt Hardy.
