Funeral Services for Opal W. Strassburg, 84, of Perry will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
Pastor Paul Burrow will officiate, with Dennis Morgan as the musician. Pallbearers will be Bruce Klein, Dennis Leslie, Harlan Koenen, Lennie Stracke, Neal Eggebraaten and Verlin Cadwallader. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home Chapel and will continue at Murdock Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 5–7 p.m.
Opal passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home.
Opal Wilhelmina Wilde was born Sept. 4, 1930, in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Katherin (Sebeils) Wilde.
She graduated from LeMars High School in 1949. She attended Westmar College in LeMars and Wayne State University in Nebraska and received her bachelor’s degree from Westmar College in 1965.
Opal taught school for 33 years before her retirement from the Perry Community School District. She taught 30 years in Perry as a sixth and seventh grade science teacher and before that taught at Merrill, Iowa, and Marcus, Iowa.
Opal married Donald E. Strassburg April 25, 1954, in LeMars. They made their home in Perry, moving from Hawarden, Iowa, in 1959.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Torch Bearers Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Strassburg of Perry; one son, Bruce (Cheri) Strassburg of Long View,Texas; two granddaughters, Randi (Ryan) Ballard of Huntsville, Texas, and Amanda Jo Strassburg of Austin, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Mary Alice Sargent of Dover, N.H.
Preceding Opal in death were her parents; one son, Steven Strassburg, in 2014; and one sister, Phyllis Eggabratten.
