DES MOINES, Iowa — Third District Congressperson Rep. Cindy Axne reminded Iowans Monday to take advantage of the three-month special open enrollment period of Obamacare’s HealthCare.gov health care marketplace that began Feb. 15.

“Thousands of Iowans have lost their jobs and their employer-provided health insurance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Axne said. “This special enrollment period of the Affordable Care Act’s health care marketplace gives Iowans who need health care coverage the chance to find affordable options to get them through the remainder of 2021 and this once-in-a-lifetime health crisis.”

Iowans who lost their health insurance due to the COVID-19 pandemic or are otherwise uninsured may be eligible for affordable health coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance marketplace, commonly known as Obamacare.

The marketplace will remain open from today, Feb. 15 until May 15, 2021.

According to the U.S. Department of Human Services, nine out of 10 consumers who are currently enrolled for coverage through HealthCare.gov receive some form of financial help.

Most consumers have purchased plans for $50 or less per month after financial assistance.

Iowans can check to see whether they qualify for financial help and can access planning information at HealthCare.gov or at CuidadoDeSalud.gov or by calling the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596.
