Perry Lutheran Homes is partnering with Osmundson Manufacturing to bring awareness and action to meet the needs of elderly community members in Perry through the Run Through Time 5K.

The Run Through Time 5K is one of several StepUp Movement initiatives of Perry Lutheran Homes’ advocating for the needs of our elderly community members so that they never feel alone, hungry, afraid, unwanted or forgotten.

The third annual Run Through Time 5K fun walk or run will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes at 1300 28th St. in Perry. Osmundson Manufacturing has committed to a $5,000 Grammy sponsorship level.

“Here at Osmundon Manufacturing, we are passionate about helping our elderly community members feel loved, valued, and well taken care of,” said Heather Bruce, chief executive officer of Osmundson Manufacturing. “The Run Through Time 5K is a fun way to raise awareness for the needs of elderly people and for our community to get involved. Many elderly people are ‘invisible’ and isolated, which can have negative effects on their mental and physical wellbeing. Together with Perry Lutheran Homes and others in our community, we’re working together to make a positive difference in the lives of all our elderly community members.”

Adults and children age 12 and up are invited to register to walk or run in the 3.1 mile Run Through Time 5K. This untimed fun run or walk is for all abilities and levels of fitness and is an out-and-back-style fun run starting and ending at Perry Lutheran Homes Eden Acres Campus and connecting with the Raccoon River Valley Trail for a large majority of the run.

Runners will enjoy song lyrics and music along the route from the 1930s through the 2020s courtesy of Raccoon Valley Radio.

In addition to the fun run, Perry Lutheran Homes is inviting the public to a 65th Anniversary Community Celebration from 10 a.m. until noon. There will be delicious food from the Hotsy Totsy food truck, live music with Steve Parnell of BRG Music, a Decade Dash for children age 6 and under, a Rock & Roll Run for children age 7 to 11, free games sponsored by Acorns & Oaks Intergenerational Christian Daycare, prizes and fun for all ages.

Event goers are encouraged to dress up in their favorite decade attire or like their favorite band or musician. Prizes will be awarded for “best-dressed” teams and/or individuals.

“We’re excited to partner with Osmundson Manufacturing for the Run Through Time 5K fun run,” said Melissa Gannon, administrator and chief operating officer for Perry Lutheran Homes. “They’ve been a part of the Perry community since 1903 and, just like all of us at Perry Lutheran Homes, they are passionate about helping our elderly community members feel loved, valued, and well taken care of.”

Gannon said the annual Run Through Time 5K is more than just a run.

“It’s a group of community-minded people and organizations working together to create awareness for the needs of our elderly citizens right here in Perry,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate our elderly people by showing them how much they mean to us and our community.”
