‘Our flag was still there’ – Memorial Day reprised

The Rippey American Legion Post 583 Rifle Squad delivered a 21-gun salute at the Rippey Cemetery on Memorial Day.

The Fairview United Methodist Church held its annual Memorial Day service last Monday. The Church is located north of Perry.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Master of Ceremonies Brent Halling stated, “Farivew has been holding a Memorial Day service as long as anyone remembers. We plan to keep this tradition going for many years to come.”

Perry Boy Scout Troop 127 presented the colors. Stever Gunderson sang the National Anthem.

Kathy Fox played a patriotic prelude and service medley.

Tom Mertz, April Gunderson and James Hunt presented patriotic readings.

The Rev. Paul Burrow gave the message, which focused on the meaning of Memorial Day.

Brent Halling closed the program by singing “Under God” accompanied by Kathy Fox.

Perry Boy Scout Troop 127 retired the colors. The Rippey American Legion Post 583 Rifle Squad presented the 21-gun saluted.

Burrow also gave the message at the Rippey Cemetery, with the Rippey American Legion Post 583 Rifle Squad offering the rifle salute. Wendy Roberts-Burkett played “Taps.”

The annual Memorial Day luncheon followed at the Rippey United Methodist Church. There were about 100 attendees. This event is hosted as a opportunity for fellowship, with funds raised being used for a variety of missions and church-related needs.

The Grand Junction Presbyterian Church also held a Memorial Day ham ball dinner. Organizers stated that more than 180 attendees were in attendance at this event. Funds raised were for various mission projects and church needs.
