Panorama boys, girls open with wins

MT AYR — The Panorama basketball teams collected a pair of non-conference wins Tuesday to begin their respective seasons.

The Panther girls, ranked sixth in Class 3A, rolled to a 50-32 win, with the Panther boys a 64-44 victor over the host Raiders.

The girls held a 14-8 lead after one quarter of play, increasing their margin to 28-12 after a second eight-minute frame. The guests were in front, 43-25, entering the final stanza, in which each team scored seven points.

Payton Beckman led all scorers with 23 points for Panorama. Laci Rishel had 12 points and Ella Waddle seven, with Angel Poldberg and Abbi Holloway scoring three points apiece and Grace Webner two. Beckman splashed a trio of 3-pointers, with Rishel, Waddle and Holloway each sinking one.

Poldberg and Shey Storesund had nine rebounds apiece, with Rishel making six assists and Poldberg three.

Panorama turned a 13-12 lead after one period into a 34-29 edge at the break in the boys game. An 11-4 run in the third quarter opened a 45-33 gap, leading to the victory.

Zach Rizzuti had 21 points and Lucas Leiferman 10 (he was 10-of-10 at the foul line) to lead the visitors. Brice Taylor had nine points and Drew Taylor eight to help the winning cause.

Panorama hosts Woodward-Granger Friday at 6 p.m. in a boys/girls set, with IKM-Manning visiting Saturday for a coed twin bill starting at 1 p.m.
