Panorama boys golf plays in Kuemper Invite

A total of seven harriers competed for Panorama at the Colfax-Mingo Invite Thursday.

CARROLL — A 13-team field packed with larger schools served as the competition Saturday for the Panorama boys golfers as they toured the Carroll Country Club for the Kuemper Catholic Invitational.

The host Knights edged Atlantic, 307-311, for top honors, with Spencer (317), ADM (324) and Denison-Schleswig (325) rounding out the top five. Carroll (331) was sixth and Humboldt (332) seventh, with Panorama shooting a 341 for eighth place. Harlan (345), Nevada (346), Webster City (346), Fort Dodge St. Edmond (358) and Shenandoah (391) were also in action.

Kuemper’s Nate Mertz fired an even-par 71 to win individual honors, with Atlantic’s Ben Renaud and Matt Gearhart placing 2-3 with rounds of 73 and of 74. Panorama’s Kolby Shackelford earned a medal by finishing sixth overall with a 39-37–76.

Wyatt Appleseth had a 45-41–86, Ryan Klinge a 41-48–89 and Dylan Douglass a 45-45–90 to join Shackelford in scoring for Panorama. Jacob Iseminger (51-42–93) and Lucas Lieferman (52-47–99) were also on the course for the Panthers.

Jared Tigges (40-36–76), Dawsom McDermott (42-36–78) and Sam Auen (38-44–82) joined Mertz in leading the hosts to the team title.
