Panorama claims pair from W-G in WCAC softball

PANORA — Wet conditions in Woodward sent Thursday’s WCAC softball doubleheader to Panora, where Panorama posted wins of 7-3 and 11-5 over W-G.

Panorama (6-5, 5-4) was the visitor in the first contest and slowly built a 7-0 lead. The Panthers scored once in the first inning and again in the second, with two runs touching home in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The Panther bats blasted three home runs and a double to build the lead. Grace Richey hit a solo homer in the second, Kennedy Andersen a two-run shot in the third, and Claire Woodworth a solo rip in the fifth.

Kellie Prince had two singles and scored twice for Panorama, with Lydia Knapp driving in a run with two hits. Andersen also had a single, with Vallerie Storesund hitting a RBI-double while Brix Gymer scored for the Panthers.

W-G (1-17, 0-7) moved the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the sixth, then scored twice in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Hawks fell.

Katelyn Bandstra had two singles and Emma Anderson two hits and a RBI while Chloe Houge, Kaycee Major and Elly Polich also added singles.

Grace Richey allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks in collecting the win. She finished with four strikeouts.

Polich started for W-G, was relieved by Ava Petersen, then returned to the circle. Polich tossed a total of 4-1/3 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out two. Petersen totaled 2-1/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk.

W-G was the visitor in game two and had a 2-1 lead until Panorama plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning and six more in the fourth to open an 11-2 gulf. The Hawks refused to go quietly, scoring three runs in the seventh to set the final score.

Olivia Richey surrendered five runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks in a complete game win. She plunked three batters with pitches and recorded a season-best 11 strikeouts.

Knapp had two singles, a double and four RBIs, with Hannah Woodworth hitting a double and driving home three while Andersen had two hits and a RBI. Prince provided two single and two RBIs, Claire Woodworth a single and a double, Shey Storesund two single and a RBI and Vallerie Storesund a single.

Shey Storesund, Claire Woodworth, Sydney Vogel, and Prince scored two times apiece, with Andersen, Ashley Clark and Nicole Rolfes also scoring for the Panthers.

Bandstra, Houge, Anderson and Maddi Danti each had hits for W-G, with Danti collecting two RBIs. Bandstra, Anderson and Houge walked, with Rian Jamison walking with the bases loaded for a RBI. Anderson, Major, and Natalie Weaver were hit by pitches, with Anderson scoring twice, Bandstra once and Houge once.

Jamison started for the Hawks and pitched 3-1/3 innings. She allowed eight hits and a walk and yielded 10 runs (four earned) while tallying one strikeout. Petersen went 2-2/3 frames, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits and a walk while recording three strikeouts.

W-G hosts the Phil Creese Classic Saturday, facing Saydel at 10 a.m. and Grandview Christian at 2 p.m. Saydel and Grandview Christian will meet at 12 p.m.

Panorama plays Audubon Saturday at 10:45 a.m. on the South diamond in the AC/GC Tourney. Underwood and CR-B will face each other at 9 a.m., with the losing teams playing at 12:30 p.m. and the two winners at 2:15 p.m.

The fifth place game is on the North field at 4 p.m. and the seventh place game on the South field at 4 p.m. The title game is at 5:45 p.m. on the North diamond and the third-place contest at 5:45 p.m. on the South diamond. AC/GC faces Boyer Valley in one quarterfinal and West Harrison meets MVAO/COU in the other on the top half of the bracket.
