AFTON, Iowa — The Panorama wrestling team collected a trio of victories while competing in a quadrangular hosted by East Union Thursdsay.
Panorama defeated the home team, 60-24, and also recorded wins of 49-27 over Martensdale-St. Marys and of 48-33 against Southwest Valley. M-SM topped East Union, 54-21, and SW Valley 48-24, with SW Valley a 48-36 victor over East Union in the other duals.
Four Panthers were 3-0 with at least one win by forfeit, a list composed of Laine Christe (106 pounds), Cayden Van Meer (145), Landon Goodenburger (160) and Issac Monroy-Nunez (285), with Cooper Andersen (220) 3-0 with two forfeits while James Hein (182 and 195 twice) was 3-0 with a trio of forfeit wins. Also winning by forfeit was Colby Waltz, who had his arm raised in his one match, which came at 182.
Christe had pins in 24 seconds and 54 ticks, with Van Meer winning with a 22-second pin and a 12-2 major decision. Goodenburger had pins in 32 seconds and in 1 minute, 15 seconds, with Monroy-Nunez pinning a pair of foes in 55 seconds and 46 seconds while Andersen had a pin in 1:08.
Maddox Nunn was 2-1 at 132 with a pin in 5:50 and a win by medical forfeit, with Keyton Van Gundy (170) 2-1 with a pin in 1:12 and a forfeit. Will Knapp was 2-1 at 126 with an 8-4 decision and a forfeit while Landon Kirtley was 2-1 at 120 with both of his wins coming via forfeit.
Emmett King was also in action for the Panthers, but was unable to collect a win in any of his three matches at 152, with Panorama leaving 113 and 138 open against all three opposing teams they faced.
Panorama will join Interstate-35 and Van Meter for a quadrangular Thursday at SE Warren (Liberty Center) and will then compete in the Friday-Saturday two-day annual tournament held by SW Valley. The Panthers will be one of 24 teams in competition in Corning.
