CORNING — Panorama joined 20 other schools in competing Friday and Saturday at the annual John J. Harris Invitational, hosted by Southwest Valley.

Class 2A No. 3 Winterset won the team title with 213.5 points, with Atlantic edging Creston/Orient-Macksburg, 164-5-162.5, for second place. Panorama finished tied with Clarinda for eighth overall after both teams earned 93 points.

Fourth-ranked junior Wyatt Appleseth (29-0) was 4-0, with four pins in a total of 4 minutes, 43 seconds, to win the 152-pound bracket. His championship run included a pin of 10th-ranked Tyler Brown of Winterset in the semifinals, with Appleseth sticking his foe in 60 seconds.

Panther 145-pounder Emry Colby (30-3), ranked 10th, finished second with a 3-1 mark. He recorded a technicall fall, a decision and a pin before losing a tight 3-2 decision in the finals to Winterset’s Jack West, who is ranked third.

Also earning a podium spot for Panorama was Logan Christe (25-9), who placed fifth at 120 pounds. Christe was 4-2, with all four of his victories coming by fall.

Landon Goodenberger (21-13) was 2-2 with a pair of pins at 160, with Cooper Anderson (18-5) 2-2 with a tech fall and a pin at 182.

Finishing 1-2, with each winning by pin, were Ryan Fees (21-15 at 138), Dillon Bennett (14-13 at 170) and James Hein (24-8 at 220).

Jaime Thorpe (0-5), Brayden Hoffman (6-8), Kael Wirt (8-12), Keyton Van Gundy (13-20) were all winless in two matches at 106, 126, 132 and 195 pounds, respectively.

The Panthers did not compete at 113 and 285 pounds.

Panorama will return to the mat Thursday when they join Pleasantville for a triangular at Lynnville-Sully. They will then compete in the always-tough Charger Invite at AC/GC Saturday.
