Panorama netters struggle at Perry Invite

Panorama played five matches Thursday at the Jayette Invitational in Perry, leaving the event with one win. Entering tonight’s home contest with Pleasantville the Panthers are 5-7 overall.

Ogden topped Panorama, 21-15 and 21-12, in the first Panther match of the day, with Coon Rapids-Bayard a 21-14 and 21-16 victor before host Perry claimed a 21-16, 21-10 win. All three matches were played in a hot and steamy middle school gym and on a regulation floor, as the varsity gym matches were played on small cross-length courts.

Panorama moved to the senior high gym for their final two matches, defeating Des Moines North 21-17 and 23-21 before dropping a 21-12 and 21-19 decision to Earlham.

Statistics provided are as provided and are from the all but the CR-B match, which has yet to be supplied.

Shey Storesund led the Panthers with 16 total kills, with Maggie Woodvine and Grace Richey adding five kills apiece. Audrey Cmelik had four kills, Jordan Douglass three and Emma Powell two, with Powell making 16 assists.

Douglass, Richey and Storesund had three blocks apiece, with Audrey Cmelik adding two blocks and Powell one.

Brix Gymer had six digs and Storesund and Lindsey VanGundy five apiece, with Douglass and Powell providing three each.

Powell served 28-of-31 with three aces while VanGundy served 18-of-19 with one ace and Storesund 11-of-15 with three aces. Richey was 14-16-2 behind the line, Woodvine 5-7-1,  Audrey Cmelik 15-of-16, Paige Cmelik 8-of-8, Jordan Douglass 4-of-6 and Payton Douglass 5-5-1.

After hosting Pleasantville Sept. 17 with Panthers are off until a visit from Glidden-Ralston Sept. 23 and a trip to the Southwest Valley tourney Sept. 28.
