Panorama sophomore Wyatt Appleseth battles his way to an 11-0 major decision over South Central Calhoun freshman Blake McAlister in the 145-pound first round consolations at the Class 1A state tourney last season.

DES MOINES — The drive for a second consecutive finish on the podium at the Class 1A state wrestling tournament by Panorama sophomore Wyatt Appleseth ended one win short of happening Friday.

Appleseth, who was eighth at 132 pounds last season with a 43-12 record, bowed out at 39-5 at 145 pounds this year after suffering an 8-2 loss to Don Bosco senior Max Wettengel (41-8) in their second round consolation bout.

He had been joined at the tournament by Panther senior Garret Fox (32-16), who competed at 170 pounds. Fox was eliminated after a pair of losses Thursday.

The Panthers are coached by Jason Kirtley.
