AFTON — The Panorama girls, to put it simply, overwhelmed their competition Thursday while the Panorama boys posted their highest point total of the year.

The Panthers were participating in the East Union Invitational against a field composed largely of smaller schools and had little trouble piling up the points. The Panorama girls amassed a whopping 197 points, with second place Central Decatur at 109, a margin between 1-2 almost never seen. Des Moines Christian managed to claim the boys side, outscoring Panorama, 180-164.

The Panther girls double-placed 6-of-7 individual races they entered, and dominated the relay action, winning 6-of-7, with a second-place effort in the sprint medley the only “blemish.”

Panorama placed twice in both throwing events and in the long jump, with Morgan Johnk second in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.

The Panther boys won 3-of-4 field events and had two placers in the shot put. The highest Panorama finisher in the eight individual races was a third-place effort in the 800, with the team producing five wins and placing twice in 4-of-8 events.

Panorama scored in five relays, placing second twice, third twice and fourth once.

Both Panther squads will return to action Tuesday when they compete in the Wheeler Relays in Audubon.
