Panther baseball wins four of five last week

The Panorama baseball team won four of the five games they played last week.

GUTHRIE CENTER — Freshman Brice Taylor allowed just one run on five hits and two walks while the Panorama offense broke loose in a 12-1 WCAC win Friday over host AC/GC. Taylor struck out seven in collecting the win.

The win capped a week in which the Panthers (5-3, 5-2) won four conference games and fell just once, to non-conference foe and seventh-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys Wednesday.

Panorama posted wins of 20-4 and of 15-5 over visiting Woodward Academy Thursday, a day after dropping a 15-9 contest to M-SM. The week had started with an 8-2 win over visiting Ogden.

Hunter Holmes had a triple and two RBIs against AC/GC, with Drew Taylor, Brice Taylor and Dominic Walker each recording a pair of singles. Walker and Drew Taylor scored twice, with Brice Taylor scoring three runs.

Koltin Sloss was the winning pitcher in the opener against Woodward Academy, a 20-4 Panther win. He allowed four runs on seven walks and two hits with eight strikeouts.

Levi Richey had a triple, two singles and four RBIs while Evan Taylor added a triple and Sloss three singles and two RBIs. Malachi Peasley aided the cause with three hits and three runs driven in.

Preston Walker was the winner of the 15-5 nightcap, holding the Knight to five runs (one earned) on three hits while fanning two.

Evan Taylor had a triple, a single and two RBIs and Drew Taylor a triple and a RBI. Brice Taylor was in on the fun as well with a double, single and three RBIs.

Wednesday’s loss to the Blue Devils came despite a never-say-die effort by the host Panthers. M-SM led, 12-4, after six frames, but then made it 15-4 after the top of the seventh. However, Panorama kept swinging, and added five runs in their final at-bat to trim the final margin.

Five Panthers pitched in the game, with Preston Walker eventually assessed the loss. He had a single and a double at the plate.

Holmes had a double, Drew Taylor a triple and three RBIs and Evan Taylor two singles and a triple. Brice Taylor hit his first career home run and added a single, finishing with two RBIs.

The 4-of-5 winning spurt began June 4 with an 8-2 win over visiting Ogden.

Drew Taylor was the star, surrendering two runs on seven hits and four walks in a seven full innings, during which he struck out seven batters.

One swing of Taylor’s own bat provided all the help he needed, as his second-inning grand slam brought home half of the eight runs the Panthers plated in the frame. Taylor later added a single.

Evan Taylor helped out with a double, single and RBI while Brice Taylor had a double.

Panorama visits Woodward-Granger for a varsity twin bill tonight, and will travel to Des Moines Christian for a doubleheader Thursday. The Panthers visited WCV Monday, but no report has yet to be received.
