WOODWARD — Woodward-Granger scored with milliseconds left to snatch a 41-40 win over host Panorama in WCAC girls basketball Dec. 6.

On Tuesday the Panthers earned some measure of revenge, fending off a 16-1 Hawk run to claim a 54-49 victory in conference play.

W-G (9-2, 7-1) is not known for outside shooting but splashed eight three-pointers to counter the nine treys landed by Panorama (9-2, 6-1). The largest statistical difference was at the foul line, where the Panthers sank 11-of-22 attempts while the host Hawks attempted only four freebies, converting two.

Panorama led, 12-10, after a tight first quarter, and managed to open a 32-24 gap at halftime. The Panther margin swelled to as much as 46-29 in the third quarter when the hosts began a desperate run.

The third period ended with W-G trailing, 47-36, but the hosts kept coming and closed to within 47-45 with three minutes to play before coming up just short.

Angel Poldberg and Payton Beckman each had 15 points for the Panthers, with Ella Waddle adding 11 points, Laci Rishel 10 and Anna Holloway three.

Beckman and Waddle had three 3-pointers apiece, with Holloway, Poldberg and Rishel each hitting one triple. Poldberg had 12 rebounds and six steals, with Beckman adding five boards and three assists.

W-G had made just 23 3-pointers entering the game, with Emma Anderson landing 11 and Darby Nixon and Finley Fitzgerald six apiece. Tuesday saw Anderson hit two triples, as did Quinn Kaufman, with Nixon, Fitzgerald, Natalie Helbling and Ava Peterson all landing one shot beyond the arc.

Anderson finished with 13 points, with Katelyn Scharlau adding eight points and Helbling seven. Kaufman had six points, Nixon five, Mae Anderson four and Fitzgerald and Petersen three apiece.

Panorama hosts Des Moines Christian Friday while W-G entertains Coon Rapids-Bayard tonight and Van Meter Friday.
