Panorama, ranked seventh in Class 2A, blasted rival Van Meter Friday. The 9-1 Panthers will visit W-G Tuesday.

PANORA — Last season all three games between the Panorama and Van Meter girls basketball teams were not decided until overtime, including their Regional Final.

Panorama was having no such nonsense Friday, keeping Van Meter off the scoreboard for the entire first quarter while racing to a 14-0 lead. The Panthers led, 26-11, at the half and never looked back in posting a 44-24 WCAC win.

Ranked seventh in Class 2A, Panorama improved to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in WCAC play while Van Meter fell to 4-3, 3-2.

While held well below their scoring average, the Panthers own defense was the story of the game, allowing a combined four points in the first and third quarters while pulling down 37 rebounds.

Hope Wilderman’s 12 points led the hosts, with Morjan Johnk adding 11 points and Devyn Kemble 10. Bailey Beckman had seven points, with Nicole Rolfes and Ella Waddle adding one basket apiece.

Johnk had nine rebounds and made five assists, with Kemble and Wilderman each clearing five boards. Kellie Prince provided four assists and Kemble three, with Kemble also making three steals.

Panorama will conclude the pre-holiday portion of their schedule Tuesday with a visit to Woodward-Granger.
