PANORA — Fourth-ranked 152-pound junior Wyatt Appleseth and 10th-rated 145-pound senior Emry Colby will represent Panorama at the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament beginning Thursday.

Session II will kick off the 2A tourney at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. First round and first round consolations will be held at that time.

Those winning their first match, or winning in the consolation Thursday, will return for Session 4 at 9 a.m. Friday, with Session 6 holding the 2A semifinals and third-round consolation matches at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Consolation semifinals and finals are held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Session 7, with the championships to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Appleseth (38-0) was eighth at 132 pounds as a freshman, finished 43-12. He was 39-5 as a sophomore, finishing 1-2 at state and missing a return podium spot, something he, no doubt, intends to avenge.

The junior will open against Anamosa junior Alex Casey (40-5). Forest City senior Kristian Gunderson (40-14) faces PCM junior Colby Tool (17-2), ranked fifth, in the other side of the mini-bracket.

Colby (38-6) had been stopped in the district tourney each of his first three seasons before taking the final step Saturday. His first match at state will be against fifth-ranked junior Jackson Rolfs (29-5) of Decorah.

The other match in Colby’s mini-bracket features eighth-rated Trestin Sales of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Mills (42-2, Jr.) against Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Cory Bates (36-12, Sr.).
