CORNING, Iowa — Panorama sent wrestlers in 11 of 14 weight classes to the two-day John J. Harris Invitational, which was hosted by Southwest Valley.

Creston/Orient-Macksburg edged Atlantic, 212-210, for the team honors, with Winterset third at 163. Panorama finished 13th in a 25-team field with 53 points.

Only three Panthers earned spots on the awards podium, with senior 220-pounder Cooper Andersen (27-1) placing second while Cayden Van Meer (25-11) was sixth at 138 and James Hein (13-6) sixth at 182.

Andersen was coming off a career milestone, having won his 100th match Thursday in Liberty Center. He received a pair of byes at the Harris Invite, then won by pin in 1 minute, 18 seconds and with a 7-2 decision.

That set up a showdown between Andersen, ranked 4th in Class 1A, and Central Decatur senior Tegan Carson (32-1), rated third in 2A. Neither grappler had a firm control of the match, but Carson prevailed in the end, claiming a 9-5 decision.

Hein finished 3-3, winning by fall in 1:36, before dropping a 3-1 decision. He scored pins in 1:07 and 2:35, but then lost twice by fall to finish sixth.

Van Meer was 2-3 overall to also place sixth, with wins in 1:41 and 2:44 followed by three consecutive losses, two of which came by decision.

Tage Monahan (7-5 at 113 pounds) was 1-2 with a pin in 57 seconds, with Landon Goodenberger (7-6 at 160) also posting a 1-2 mark, his win coming in 2:46. Also 1-2 was heavyweight Issac Monroy-Nunez (8-5), who recorded his win with a pin in 3:28.

In action but denied wins in each of their two bouts for Panorama were Laine Christe (106 pounds), Landon Kirtley (120), Will Knapp (126), Maddox Nunn (132) and Keyton VanGundy (170).

The Panthers did not have competitors on the mat at 145, 152 or 195 pounds.

Panorama will host Lynnville-Sully and Pleasantville for a triangular Thursday, then compete Saturday in the AC/GC Invitational.
