Panthers make quick work of Hawks in WCAC set

WOODWARD, Iowa — A pair of quick starts sparked visiting Panorama to a pair of conference wins at Woodward-Granger Tuesday.

The Class 2A No. 6 Panther girls improved to 18-1 overall and 12-0 in WCAC action with a 59-22 win while Panorama rose to 13-5 and 10-2 in boys action with a 77-58 win. W-G fell to 7-12 and 5-8 on the girls side and to 1-16 and 1-13 in boys play.

Panorama was out fast in both games, and held a 26-6 lead after just eight minutes in the opener. The Panther girls led, 41-9, at halftime and entered the fourth frame holding a 48-20 advantage.

The guests sank six 3-pointers and were 13-of-15 at the free throw line while the home team made two treys and was 4-of-6 at the charity stripe.

Payton Beckman led Panorama with 18 points, with Laci Rishel adding 15 and Jaidyn Sellers 10. Six points from Angel Poldberg, four each from Mia Waddle and Zoey Hambleton and two from Gabby Wellberg capped the Panther offense.

Beckman splashed three triples, Poldberg two and Rishel one, with Sellers grabbing five rebounds.

Darby Nixon led W-G with 11 points, with Grace Deputy adding six, Kenzie Dresback three and Lexi Bogardus two. Nixon and Deputy each made one 3-point shot.

A 28-8 first quarter led to a 39-18 halftime lead for the visitors in the boys game. Panorama led, 61-36, after three frames and cruised from there.

Braylon Dawes made 6-of-9 3-pointers to finish with 18 points, with Jared Wasson adding 15 points and Braedon Draper 12. Klayton Bremer and Maddox Hammerstrom tallied 11 points apiece for the Panthers, with Jackson Peasley recording six points and Austin Block four.

Peasley had two treys and Hammerstrom seven rebounds and Wasson six. Block handed out six assists, with Dawes, Draper and Wasson each finishing with four assists.

Carter Moran led W-G with 22 points, with Brody Nardini scoring 16. Five points apiece from Collin Nardini and Dane Polich, four apiece from Josh Hultman and Chandler Drake and two from Jack Meusburger completed the scoring ledger for the Hawks.

Moran snagged nine rebounds, Brody Nardini eight and Hultman seven to pace the hosts under the rim.

Panorama will resume play Friday with a visit from WCAC rival Des Moines Christian.
